Our Very First Event 2021 

Our very first Plein Air Event was held over two days and in two locations. Friday evening began with an Artist Meet & Greet in downtown Lumpkin, where artists, local residents and visitors gathered to enjoy music, conversation, and anticipation for the day ahead.

Saturday morning brought an unexpected challenge as artists arrived at Providence Canyon State Park to find the canyon hidden beneath a blanket of thick fog. Fortunately, the skies cleared just before 10:00 a.m., revealing the canyons breathtaking beauty and giving artists ample time to complete their work before returning to downtown Lumpkin for judging.

The inaugural competition awarded First Place to Andy Carpenter, Second Place to Julianna Wells, and Third Place to Barbara Ratner. Looking back, we learned a great deal during that first year, and the artists extended us tremendous grace as we found our footing. Their enthusiasm, patience, and support helped lay the foundation for what A Canyon Plein Air would become. We remain grateful to everyone who participated in making our very first event such a memorable success.
